This has allowed Star Vs to have a better cast of characters than SU due to it's better chosen focus on characters. The frequently appearing characters get expertly expanded upon in brilliant ways, and the less frequent characters have distinct, recognizable characterization that you can't forget. Better yet, none of them are solidified as part of the 'main cast' so when they go away, it doesn't feel like they are sidelined. This sounds like a lot but as a sum I believe it's less. Star's closest friends, mostly Ponyhead, her family, Glossaryck, The High Commission, and the couple villains in the show. Star, Marco, Jackie, a couple other occasional humans. Star Vs, on the other hand, has a much smaller cast overall.

The thought of them not living up to their full narrative potential would be a creative travesty. That will take even more time from characters still needing development - a worrying prospect, given the potential of each and every character in the show. Jasper, all 3, possibly 4 diamonds, all have a major role in the story, and they have to get to them eventually.

Lapis especially has been criticized by many as of late due to her inconsistent and rare development and characterization.ДЄnd that's forgetting the antagonists. Lapis and Peridot, as well as pretty much every single human in the show. However, it's massive cast makes it difficult to properly develop some characters, and thus it sidelines MANY characters. It tries to develop all of them but sometimes fails spectacularly, and other times has the best development in animated history. Steven Universe has a MUCH larger cast size. Because humans rarely participate in the grandness of gem adventures, their development is stunted and limited. This is purely from the separation of the human and gem matters. Most aren't bad, but just mediocre and don't stand up to the rest. They're forgotten most of the time because they just aren't notable. The two categories interacted less and less as time went on, and now-a-days human episodes are noticeably less in quality and shine far less bright. SU has essentially put a line between 'human' and 'Gem' episodes. This is where SU failed and made it's biggest mistake. Yet it's tension built up at a more consistent rate - there are numerous episodes that flow seamlessly from everyday life to a more story oriented plotline, and the pure plot episodes are outstanding. started kinda conflict of the day, similar to Steven Universe. I wouldn't say any of the early episodes are bad, and actually most are quite good, if lacking polish. Steven Universe is known for starting very slow, only picking up about halfway through season 1 with the masterpiece that was Mirror Gem, and several really good episodes earlier. Here is why Star Vs has as of late, become the superior show (in terms of critical writing quality)ДЇirst, I'd like to talk about how each show starts off, for those who haven't watched. However, SU seems to have come to a crossroads and it feels like they did not know which path to take. I am a huge fan of both, but SU more so than Star Vs. I was keeping up with Steven Universe even longer - since not long before the second Steven Bomb. for a good while - just before the season 1 finale.
